IPOD Radio ReviewIpod Radio Remote arrived today...............It hasn't been totally smooth sailing though: As usual with the apple products the packaging is great, the item is very well presented. The device looks a bit like an even smaller ipod shuffle - which is cool. Again they've used similar glossy ( hard ) plastics in the construction so just like the ipod itself it scratches easily. Sorry for the picture quality, these were taken on my phone - I'll replace them with decent versions soon So Its out of the box, time to plug it in. Oh, it doesn't do any thing - You have to first upgrade the Firmware to version 1.1 ( Ipod 5g with video ) Ok shouldn't be difficult ( should it? ), so I went to the apple site http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/ and downloaded the updater. I then installed this onto my XP laptop..........at the end of the installation I was prompted to re-boot. After the re-boot that was it - no more laptop! It just would not boot anymore, only in Safe mode. I'm still itching to play with my new toy so I install the software onto my XP desktop and cross my fingers ( Luckily this time we survive the reboot ) I fire up the iPod updater program, It detects my ipod - and Im prompted with 2 options update or factory re-set. Update methinks, as I dont really want be replacing all of my music+Video's and Customisations. 2 Minutes Later......................... Oh! Firmware update failed! - Thats a bad thing isnt it? Although I'll have a lovely ipod shaped brick. There's nothing more I can do at this point, other than disconnect the ipod as the software has hung. Dead? Its telling me to contact Apple...... First I'll Try Again with the Updater Luckily the Factory Reset option is still available ( Oh Joy ) Its now back up and working and running firmware 1.1, Im currently busy playing with the thing. Trying to get reception as its a bit poo in-doors. The RDS works ok though I can see the station names messages ok. Watch this space.................. |
